October 15 – from 1-2 special meeting with TAG members and Library Group

(Gloria Stewart and Scott Lewandowski will not be available for this meeting)

Members from the Library Steering Committee have been visiting other campuses (University of Dayton) – to see how their libraries are set up - there is a blog site set up: http://mariettalibrary.blogspot.com/ if anyone wants to read information or add a comment – please feel free

John Davis – IT support Plan – status of Plans for IT Technology – How realistic is plan – funding is always an issue.  Have had problems with students listing/sharing music on MC website (copyright problems) – we do get scanned by outside agents to make sure we’re following copyright laws.  Ultimately school is responsible.

Laptop issues: Referred to the TAG by the Planning Committee –

All students should have laptops? What issues are involved? What is the campus wide standard that we are recommending for students to bring to campus? Should students be assigned a laptop when they come to campus and be charged $200/semester for a technology fee?  General discussion followed

This topic has come up every year even before the Title III began implementation. (More than 4 years)

Computer labs on campus have specialized software for various majors.  Would students be using these in class?  Would it be fair for MC to require a laptop and students would not be using nor needing the laptop in their classes?

Sharon Douglass provided a library survey of laptop computers that they loan out and their usage.

Debbie Stodberg will begin to gather information on how many computers were brought to campus this year through the R.A.’s (Student Life) and the FYSE instructors.
