Graduate Council Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, December 3, 2003
207 McDonough at 12 noon
In attendance: Dave McShaffrey (Chair), Laura Little, Jim O’Donnell,
Mark Sibicky, Gloria Stewart, Tina Ullman, Cathy Brown, Dan Huck, Sharon
Douglass.
Last week’s meeting minutes were approved as amended.
Items:
Meeting time for next semester: McShaffrey asked if any members have
schedule changes for next term would affect the meeting time established
for Council. Members present indicated no changes although Council will
discuss other possible times that may be more convenient. McShaffrey
advised members to be prepared for a lengthy proposal from Education at
the beginning of spring semester. The first meeting of spring semester
will be Wednesday, January 21, 2004.
Graduate Programs Grant Application form: Stewart distributed amended form
based on revisions from previous meeting. Council reviewed the form and
approved the application. McShaffrey will have paper copies available for
applicants until an electronic copy can be posted on a webpage.
Constitution sections for Graduate Council and Curriculum Committee:
Members proposed changes to the composition of Graduate Council to
designate the Director of Graduate Programs & Continuing Education as
administration representative, having an equal number of faculty members
to the number of graduate program directors, designating a Librarian as
one of the faculty members appointed, designating an Instructional
Technologist as an appointed member, and removing graduate program
approval from Curriculum Committee. Stewart voiced concern over how large
the Council may become with these changes. McShaffrey will forward these
proposals to Faculty Council.
Graduate Council Policies and Practices: Members edited the Policies and
Practices for grammar and content. Revisions and discussion will continue
at the next meeting.
Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, 2004, 12 noon, 207
McDonough.
Meeting adjourned at 1:00 pm.
