- The
meeting commenced at 4:00 P.M.
- Minutes
from the November 16 meeting were approved as amended.
- Council
decided to contribute a page to the memorial scrapbook for Mike
Conte. Katie McDaniel volunteered
to write a letter on behalf of Council.
- Angela
Burdiss initiated a discussion about the types of
materials that need to be kept in Special Collections and distributed
guidelines for college archives from the Society
of American Archivists. Council members will review the guidelines and
send comments to Angela by December 7.
- Bill
Bauer explained recommendations for changes in procedures of the Human
Subjects Committee. The following
three types of research were discussed: 1) in-class research, 2) expedited
short reviews, and 3) full reviews. Modified proposal forms were reviewed
and changes were recommended. Bill will provide a revised copy for
Council. The Provost recommended that there should be a process for
informing her about proposals that may have legal or P.R. risks. Concerns
about the workload of the chair of this committee and the committee
composition were also discussed. It was decided that the Human Subjects
Committee will become a Provost’s committee with the chair appointed by
the Provost and additional members endorsed by Council. Bill will provide
a review of the Human Subjects approval process to the full faculty at the
January meeting.

discussing the agenda for December 7, the meeting adjourned at 6:00 P.M.
