  1. The meeting commenced at 4:00 P.M.
  2. Minutes from the November 16 meeting were approved as amended.
  3. Council decided to contribute a page to the memorial scrapbook for Mike Conte.  Katie McDaniel volunteered to write a letter on behalf of Council.
  4. Angela Burdiss initiated a discussion about the types of materials that need to be kept in Special Collections and distributed guidelines for college archives from the Society of American Archivists. Council members will review the guidelines and send comments to Angela by December 7.
  5. Bill Bauer explained recommendations for changes in procedures of the Human Subjects Committee.  The following three types of research were discussed: 1) in-class research, 2) expedited short reviews, and 3) full reviews. Modified proposal forms were reviewed and changes were recommended. Bill will provide a revised copy for Council. The Provost recommended that there should be a process for informing her about proposals that may have legal or P.R. risks. Concerns about the workload of the chair of this committee and the committee composition were also discussed. It was decided that the Human Subjects Committee will become a Provost’s committee with the chair appointed by the Provost and additional members endorsed by Council. Bill will provide a review of the Human Subjects approval process to the full faculty at the January meeting.
  6. After discussing the agenda for December 7, the meeting adjourned at 6:00 P.M.
